After spending time in Bangkok, and going to the Koh Phangan Full Moon Party, I needed a break- to work. I headed over to Koh Samui, I didn’t really know what to expect, I wanted an authentic Thai experience away from the swarms of tourists. The hotel I stayed at was a family run “resort” at the end of a dirt road. Seriously, the grandma greeted me and took my information, the yard looked like something from Jeff Foxworthy’s Redneck Yard of The Week. However, it was feet from the beach, the internet is great and the people are friendly. You can feel like you are in the middle of nowhere and in the middle of it at the same time. With a convenience store, a few restaurants, and a Thai boxing gym.
The internet was surprisingly good at the place I stayed, I thought I would have to go to a co-working space or cafe but I was able to cook in my kitchen and work from the balcony, saving a decent amount of money. At first I felt isolated, but then I began to enjoy the peace and quiet.

The beach was stunning and private, I was able to sunbathe topless and finally fill in some nasty tan lines.
I chose to stay away from the beaten path because sometimes you need to get away and spend time with yourself. I thought of it as a mini silent retreat and that is just what it was.
